Oslo Youth Council (BURO)
BURO is a regionally based umbrella organisation for voluntary children and youth organisations in Oslo. Oslo, the capital, is in the south-east corner of Norway. It is the biggest city in Norway, with about half a million inhabitants.
In addition to being a resource for our organisations, BURO runs three youth projects, The Youth Information Centre, Youth Participation and The Minority Project with alltogether 9 employees.
BURO is a politically and religiously neutral organisation. The 54 member organisations in BURO come together for the annual meeting in March. There the board is elected, and the budget and guidelines for the year is passed. The board meets once a month and works out the strategy to reach the goals of BURO. The council brings together a unique combination of influence and expertise, and works through its member organisations for the benefit of all young people in the capital.
Children and youth organisations in Oslo
BUROs’ 54 member organisations gather almost 30.000 members under the age of 26. The organisations are divided in the following categories:
- political organisations
- scouts and children`s organisations
- humanitarian and leisure organisations
- religios organisations
The most important task is to ensure good economical and administrative conditions for the democratic and cultural work within the member organisations aswell as assisting them in practical matters. BURO strive to influence the political and administrative municipal system in Oslo in matters that concern one ore more of our member organisations.
